As with many of our projects in New York City, we were working with interesting but awkward spaces in this converted 19th Century schoolhouse. The need for storage and efficient space planning was paramount. By building a 16’-0” tall bookcase with a rolling ladder we gave the living room a little architectural drama which it needed to carry off its extremely high ceilings, and also supplied the room with much need storage. One of the owners, who is a chef, had us rework the low ceilinged kitchen incorporating a new laundry room and pantry and removing all the closed cabinetry. The result was a much more open, bright, and easily accessible workspace.
